New land development has increased storm runoff and it has become necessary to construct new culvert pipes or concrete culvert boxes next to existing ones under the highways. The scope of this project is to conduct a method evaluation for the installation of a multiple culvert drainage system (box or pipe). This would allow for the preparation of new or revised TxDOT specifications and standard plan details that corresponds to the best utilization of the Jack and Bore operations.

The Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) at The University of Texas at Arlington's Department of Civil Engineering will conduct several tasks. The CUIRE team will determine the validity of current TxDOT standards for jack and bore operations. Specifically, TxDOT SCP-MD Standard for improvement in design and construction will be studied through an implementation project. Specific evaluation of current 6-in. minimum specification will be conducted to determine its appropriateness for parallel culvert installations based on varying field conditions. Analysis of the compiled data will be performed to address modifications for current design and construction specifications. Necessary modifications in relation to method selection, design, and construction methods will be provided.
