Dr. Nur Yazdani recently received a 3-year $300,000 grant from TxDOT. The project will involve the evaluation of FRP repaired TxDOT concrete bridges. TxDOT has utilized Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) strengthening of damaged or deteriorated concrete bridge elements in recent years. The damage may occur due to vehicle collision, fire or corrosion of reinforcement. In this project, the in-place performance of FRP strengthening a few years after the installation will be undertaken to discover any time-dependent and environment related degradation. Summary information on the current state of the art practice on FRP strengthening of concrete bridges and experimental verification of FRP retrofitting of beam and column samples are also involved. This will lead to validation of the TxDOT procedure through a correlation between the design concept and the procedure carried out in the field. |
