The Department of Civil Engineering (CE) at the University of Texas at Arlington (UT Arlington) invites applicants for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in the area of Water Resources/Hydrology. Candidates are sought at the Assistant or Associate Professor level with primary specialty in water resources, and hydrology, including: surface water hydrology, watershed BMPs, distributed modeling, radar hydrology and remote sensing, GIS applications, stochastic and probabilistic techniques, sustainable use and availability. Additional specialty such as hydraulics or groundwater hydrology may be considered only as a supplement to main strengths in the primary area. The requirements are completion of a B.S. in Civil Engineering or a closely related field and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering area or a closely related field. At least one degree must be in Civil Engineering. P.E. licensure, or the ability to obtain one within a few years of joining the department, is required. Expected start date for the position is Fall 2009. Industrial, consulting, or governmental experience is preferred, but not required. Candidates should be committed to sponsored research procurement, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, dedication to teaching excellence and active participation in professional service.
UT Arlington is located at the center of the Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) Metroplex, the largest non-port metropolitan area in the U.S., with a population of more than 5 million. Excellent recreational, entertainment and cultural facilities, modern shopping complexes, and professional sports organizations are located in Arlington (population 365,000) and the surrounding areas. DFW International Airport is within 15 minutes of the main UT Arlington campus, and is the hub for major airlines with direct routes to most main national and international destinations.
The CE program is the only one of its kind at a public university in the DFW region, offering ample employment opportunities for graduates. The CE Department has state of the art laboratories, classrooms, and computing facilities, and provides a stimulating study and research atmosphere for both students and faculty. The CE Department is among one the fastest growing departments within the College of Engineering, with 19 full-time faculty members and almost 500 students. Student enrollment has increased by about 20% and external research funding has increased by about 100% over the last two years. New initiatives with the significant industrial base in the DFW Metroplex area are being pursued. Innovative student curricula and career advising strategies are being developed and implemented. Multi-disciplinary research/education centers in areas of national/international critical needs are being established. In this process, the Department hopes to significantly contribute towards UT Arlington’s efforts to bring a Tier 1 university status to the DFW and north Texas area.

modeling, storm water treatment, or industrial/hazardous waste
treatment. Specific expertise within one of these general areas is
expected, with a preference for expertise on municipal systems in large
urban areas and sustainable development. Environmental candidates with
superior qualifications will be considered for the Syed R. Qasim
Endowed Professorship.
