Dr. Strom served two years in the U.S. Army at the Pioneering Research Laboratory of Natick Laboratories and worked 32 years for Mobil Research and Development Corp. in Dallas. He has nearly 50 scientific publications, 25 U.S. patents, and a number of foreign patents. While working for Mobil, he taught chemistry courses in night school at UT-Arlington, UT-Dallas, Dallas Baptist University, and El Centro Community College. After he retired from Mobil, he began teaching again at UT-Arlington. His research interests are in the study of organic free radicals by electron spin resonance spectroscopy, the use of polymers in oil production, and the history of chemistry. Representative Publication: E. Thomas Strom, D. S. Marynick and B. S. Snowden, Jr, "Electron Spin Resonance Studies of Substituent Effects. 6. Experimental and Theoretical Studies of Ortho Substituent-Induced Cis-Trans Isomerization in 1-Phenyl-1,2-Propanesemidiones," ARKIVOC 2003, xii, 178-185.
