ResearchCMAS is committed to supporting and promoting research in Mexican American Studies.
First, CMAS provides ongoing research funding for Core Faculty members (those who teach CMAS core classes as part of their teaching portfolio and serve on the Center Executive Committee).
Second, CMAS sponsors one-year Faculty Research Associate (FRA) awards of $1500 in research funding, renewable for a second year, to UTA faculty members conducting research consistent with our mission. Three of these awards are made each year, following an open call to all tenure-track and tenured faculty. Preference is afforded to tenure-track faculty. FRAs are asked to participate in the intellectual life of CMAS by presenting their own work in colloquia or brown bag hours during their FRA award period, and to participate in expanding such public research events by organizing additional research forums.
Third, CMAS engages research on Latino Studies abroad. Examples include a faculty exchange and binational conference organized through an international compact between UTA and the Universidad Complutense in Madrid, research workshops hosting graduate students from the Universidad del Sur and the Universidad Autónoma Juárez de Tabasco in Mexico, and periodically hosting international scholars-in-residence.
