Eugene Anderson Sport Performance Lecture Series
Endowment Drive

The UTA College of Education and Department of Kinesiology are proud to announce an endowment drive for the Eugene Anderson Sport Performance Lecture Series beginning in the fall of 2004. In its eighteenth lecture, the Department of Kinesiology has presented the Eugene Anderson Sport Performance Lecture each fall and spring.

Dr. Eugene W. Anderson (1932-1997) was Professor and Chair of the Department of Exercise, Sport and Health Studies at The University of Texas at Arlington from 1978-1994. His professional career of over 40 years included service as an assistant vice-president for academic affairs, university department chair, college coach, high school instructor and coach.

The curriculum of the Department of Kinesiology includes the study and practice of sport. It is clearly understood that sport is a significant element of our culture and that it is conducted in a variety of settings and for a variety of purposes. Therefore, this lecture series provides an opportunity to all interested individuals to broaden their understanding of this culture phenomenon.

The Eugene Anderson Sport Performance Lecture Series has three purposes. It is designed to:

  1. Supplement the Department’s educational mission through presentations and interactions with significant professionals from various areas of sport culture;
  2. Recognize significant professionals from the area who are making contributions to our sport culture and can provide different perspectives relative to sport performance; and
  3. Develop more interaction with sport enterprise outside the Department of Kinesiology and The University of Texas at Arlington.

It is the intent of the Department with support of the Anderson family to provide a permanent mechanism of funding for the Anderson Sport Performance Lecture Series. The creation of an endowment for the purpose of speaker stipends and lecture expenses is underway.

Endowment gifts may be made in honor or memory of a loved one, and may be given in many forms such as cash, stock, life insurance, or real estate. In any case, the gift will be designated for the Anderson Lecture Series Endowment and the Endowment’s interest income will be used for the purpose supporting the lecture series in perpetuity, ensuring the Legacy of Eugene Anderson.
