In fall 2011, COEd administrators-in-training completed 456,060 hours of service learning. These hours contributed to the efficiency and success of schools at all levels and district offices.

The purpose of the College of Education Leadership Advisory Council (LAC) is to foster close working relationships among the business and education leaders in those markets that the COEd serves. This includes developing relationships with alumni, faculty, students, donors and other supporters of the COEd. In this regard, the College’s mission to teach, advance and produce scholarly work, as well as to serve the community, is a key concept in orienting the LAC in its efforts to assist the college.
Specific examples of the goals and results to be realized as a result of these relationships are:
A. Advocacy: The LAC’s role is to function as an advocacy group for the university and the college by increasing awareness and personal contact among Council members, business and education leaders, donors, prospective donors, alumni, faculty, students and other supporters of the COEd. These efforts are in pursuit of attracting the best and brightest faculty, researchers and students. In turn, the results are “game changers” in enhanced teacher quality and public education.
B. Connection: The LAC is asked to bring the points of view and needs of business and the teaching profession to the College’s attention. Council members are vital in connecting academic procedure and professional practice.
C. Dialogue: To develop more involvement of faculty and staff with Council members and the professional community.
D. Employment: To expand opportunities for students to find employment with firms of Advisory Council members, Independent School Districts and other employers.
E. Philanthropy: To assist the college in the cultivation and solicitation of philanthropic resources.
F. Recruitment: To assist in the recruitment of students and faculty to the college. In addition, to recruit other Council members who would provide meaningful expertise to the LAC.
The College of Education Leadership Advisory Council shall consist of 30-35 members recommended by the dean of the COEd and elected by the LAC. The dean shall ensure that at the time of appointment, each individual member receives a copy of these Bylaws and is notified of the term of office along with the expectations and responsibilities of membership. The membership roster of the LAC shall be maintained in the dean’s office and reported to the President of UTA and the Office of Development by September 1st, or as otherwise designated, of each year. All members shall serve for one two-year term with the option to be re-appointed for one additional two-year term. Terms of appointment are staggered so that only one-third of the membership terms expire each year. Each term begins on September 1 of the appointment year.
The COEd Advisory Council shall hold at least two regular meetings each year, one in the fall and one in the spring; the fall meeting shall be considered the annual meeting. In addition to the Council’s meetings, each active standing committee shall hold a minimum of two regular meetings, preferably one in the fall and one in the spring.
