Mid Level (4-8) Certification Requirements (15 Credit Hours):

 

EDML 5308 Middle Grades Organization, Instruction and Management
EDML 5328 Preadolescent/Adolescent Growth, Development, and Learning Theory
EDUC 5310 Diverse Populations in Today's Schools
LIST 5326 OR 5345 Teaching the Language Arts in Secondary Schools OR Content Area Reading & Writing
EDML 5315 Practicum (see requirements below**)

EDUC 5395 The Research Process
EDTC 5301 Current Applications of Technology in Education

 

Content Area (15 Credit Hours): Students may pursue graduate level courses in a single content area such as Math, Science, English, etc. OR  an add-on certificate such as ESL or Gifted and Talented. In all cases, prior approval of the coursework by the Program Director is required.

IMPORTANT:

ü Students pursuing middle level certification must have at least 24 semester credit hours in one of the subject areas for middle level certification.  A Content Declaration Form, signed and dated by a Content Advisor, must be completed and turned in to the Graduate Staff Advisor before you may enroll in classes.

ü    Direct questions regarding course content,  substitution,  or acceptable transfers to the Program Director.

ü      Direct questions addressing course clearance, registration, submission of petitions/transfers to your Graduate Staff Advisor.

ü      **To be eligible to proceed to practicum (residency), middle level certification students must have completed at least two of the following:  EDUC 5310, EDML 5308. EDML 5328, and LIST 5326 or LIST 5345.
