Required Courses (15 credit hours):

  • EDUC 5310—Diverse Populations in Today’s Schools
  • EDUC 5314—Effective Classroom Instruction
  • EDUC 5329—Classroom Management & Discipline
  • LIST 5345—Content Area Reading and Writing

        OR

  • LIST 5326—Teaching Language Arts in Secondary Schools (ELAR, offered falls only online)
  • *EDUC 5315—Practicum Residency (Last Course)

 

 


 

* Obtaining a full time teaching position at the level and in the content area in which the student is pursuing certification will fulfill the Practicum Residency requirement.  In all cases, students must register for EDUC 5315 (1 semester for student teaching; 2 semesters for probationary certificate students)

Important Facts

 

ü  Students enrolled in the Teacher Certification Program as a Certification Student can only use 12 semester credit hours towards a Master of Education in Teaching (M.Ed.T.) Degree.  If you wish to apply to the Master's program, please submit a Change of Program request to the Graduate School. 

ü  To be eligible to proceed to practicum (residency), secondary and all level certification students must have completed at least three of the following:  EDUC 5310, EDUC 5314, EDUC 5329, and LIST 5326 or LIST 5345.

ü  Direct questions addressing course substitution, transfer credit, and course content to the program director and/or the appropriate content advisor.

ü  Direct questions addressing course clearance and registration to Graduate Advising.

ü  Meet with your faculty advisor prior to registering for your second semester.
