Applicants who have earned master's degrees from accredited institutions and are only interested in Principal Certification will be required to complete 24 semester credit hours of EDAD coursework and internships. An applicant must hold a valid Texas Teacher Certificate, have a minimum of two creditable years of teaching experience, be admitted to the Principal Preparation program and complete a certification plan with the Graduate Advisor.
A student will apply as a Certification Only Student through the Graduate School in order to participate in this certification only program. Students are required to pass at 80% a practice test in order to be permitted to sit for the state certification exam (TExES). Students must pass the state certification exam to be recommended for standard Principal Certification.
Upon successful completion of all coursework and TExES, students should apply to SBEC (www.sbec.state.tx.us) for principal certification.
Coursework for Texas Principal Certification is also built into the degree plan for the Master of Education (M.Ed.).
