MS Admission Requirements
Unconditional Admission
- Current GRE score of at least 400 on the verbal test of the GRE and a score of at least 600 on the quantitative test of the GRE.
- 3.0 GPA for the degree and/or 3.0 GPA during the last 60 hours of undergraduate work.
- Undergraduate and/or graduate course work in related to exercise physiology
- 3.0 GPA on all graduate work.
- 3 letters of reference on file.
Probationary Admission
Applicants failing to meet the unconditional admission GRE criteria or having a GPA less than 3.0 may be considered for probationary admission in which case the following additional criteria will also be considered by the Graduate Studies Committee:
- Professionally relevant experience
- A sample of technical writing may be requested
Applicants admitted on probation will be required to maintain a B or better average during their first 12 hours of graduate study.
A graduate advisor within the Department of Kinesiology will review transcrips of prospective students to determine what prerequisites are needed prior to enrollment in courses within the proposed program. If deficiencies are identified, a pre-program of study designed to prepare the student for graduate course prerequisites will be written and signed by the prospective student and the graduate advisor.
Undergraduate course work should include general anatomy/physiology, general chemistry, algebra, basic statistics, general physics and exercise physiology and exercise testing and prescription (see prerequisites). Additional courses may be required depending on the student’s background and area of interest.
If the applicant is able to meet either the required GRE or MAT scores but not the undergraduate GPA requirement, other factors such as the candidate’s professionally relevant experience will be considered. In this case, the applicant may be admitted on probationary status which requires the student earn a 3.0 GPA during the first 12 semester hours of graduate course work. Final admittance into the program will be made by the Graduate Studies Committee, the departmental graduate coordinator and chairperson of the Department of Kinesiology.
