College of Education Alumna and National Teacher of the Year, Shanna Peeples, is 2015 Texan of the Year Finalist

Thursday, December 17, 2015

Shanna Peeples, College of Education alumna and 2015 National Teacher of the Year, is a 2015 Dallas Morning NewsTexan of the Year Finalist.  Ms. Peeples has worked tirelessly for fifteen years teaching immigrant students at Palo Duro High School in Amarillo.  Peeples teaches children from impoverished and troubled backgrounds who stastically do not perform well academically, yet Peeples' refuses to dwell on the negative aspects of her students lives and instead strives to raise students expectations for themselves.  Although Peeples tenure as the nation's education ambassador ends in April, her immediate goal is to connect American teachers with educators overseas who teach in dangerous and volatile environments every day but still are present for their students.
