The Diane Patrick Elementary School

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

The new Diane Patrick Elementary School, named in honor of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies professor and former Texas state representative, Diane Patrick, was dedicated on August 22, 2015.  The new school's inaugural year began two days later with Dr. Patrick on hand to greet the first new students. The dedication ceremony included remarks by the Dean of the College of Education, Jeanne Gerlach,  AISD Superintendent Dr. Marcelo Cavazos, and Texas Education Commissioner Michael Williams, among others.  Diane Patrick Elementary is a new state-of-the-art school, with each classroom equipped with smart boards and iPads. The library offers 3-D printing and robotics opportunities, and the school has a broadcast studio which is used by the students to present the morning news.  One of the unique features of this school is its pod layout.  Each grade level has designated areas in the building with a common "Mission Lab" area which connects all same grade classrooms. Diane Patrick Elementary is a dynamic, progressive school - just like Dr. Diane Patrick herself!
