Curriculum and Instruction's Dr. Kathryn Pole, Assistant Professor of Literacy Studies, was recently intereviewed by KERA news to discuss teachers concerns that cursive writing is taught less and less to students. Research from Indiana University and the University of Washington, indicates that children who learn to write and take handwritten notes, rather than relying totally on keyboarding, remember more of what they have read and what they have heard from the instructor; they also write faster and are better spellers.
