Scholarships awarded to 15 math and science students

Fifteen students at The University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Education and Health Professions and College of Science have been awarded a combined $60,000 in scholarships for middle-level mathematics and science teacher certification.

The students receiving the $4,000 awards must agree to teach in high-need schools, which are usually located in low-income areas, for a minimum of two years after graduation.

The Greater Texas Foundation Scholarship Program awards were announced Tuesday, October 27. The foundation’s scholarship program is funded by a $150,000 grant.

The Greater Texas Foundation is a Bryan, Texas-based non-profit agency dedicated to increasing access to higher education, supporting teachers, and encouraging parental and community involvement in education.

This year’s scholarship recipients are: Tara Cogdell, senior; Cassie Dubois, graduate; Brooke Higginbotham, senior; Julian Holmes, graduate; Jennifer Johnson, junior; Ruth Ann Knowles, senior; Bradley Leake, junior; Crystal Lee, senior; Jamie Martin, senior; Suzanne Moak, senior; Leslie Price, junior; Jashida Rather, senior; Monique Reid, graduate; Natasha Robison, senior; and Evan Sanchez, senior.
