Literacy Studies: Master Reading Teacher Focus

This program is entirely online.

Certification as a Master Reading Teacher requires 3 years of verifiable classroom teaching experience.

Required Master Reading Teacher Coursework (9 credit hours)

LIST 5373 Foundations of Literacy Learning in the Primary Grades
LIST 5350 Literacy Assessment
LIST 5361 Language Learning: Educational Perspectives

Required Coursework (6 credit hours)

LIST 5325 Current Trends in Reading & Language Arts (should precede LIST 5385)
LIST 5385 Literacy Research (should precede LIST 5317)

Choose one course from each of the following groups (9 credit hours)

LIST 5326 Teaching the Language Arts in Secondary Schools
LIST 5345 Content Area Reading and Writing
LIST 5362 Literacy Instructions in ESL/Bilingual Settings
LIST 5353 Literature for Children & Young Adults
LIST 5354 Multicultural Literature for Children
LIST 5346 Teaching the Writing Process
LIST 5384 Advanced Pedagogy of Writing

LIST Electives (6 credit hours)

Required Student Teaching (6 credit hours)

LIST 5316 Literacy Student Teaching I (must be taken in first long semester of enrollment)
LIST 5317 Literacy Student Teaching II (capstone- taken in last long semester of enrollment)
