Advisor/Student Responsibilities
Academic
Advising is an educational process that, by intention and design, facilitates
students' understanding of the meaning
and purpose of higher education and
fosters their intellectual and personal development toward academic success and
lifelong
learning. (NACADA, 2004)

Advisor responsibilities -
what you can expect from an advisor
Understand
and effectively communicate the degree options, graduation requirements,
admission requirements, and
university and
College of Education and Health Professions policies and procedures.
Be available to answer questions through scheduled individual or group meetings and/or e-mail.
Assist you in choosing a degree that is consistent with your strengths.
Assess your academic performance and monitor and accurately document your progress.
Provide you with information about and strategies for utilizing the available resources and services on campus.
Maintain confidentiality based on the guidelines of FERPA.
Student responsibilities

Accept responsibility for your academic decisions, plans and progress.
Be knowledgeable about university and College of Education and Health Professions programs, policies and procedures.
Make contact with an advisor every semester for clearance.
Advisors
will answer general questions via
e-mail, but understand
that only in an appointment can your file be accurately
evaluated to assess
your academic progress. There is no walk-in advising; please call 817-272-2956
to schedule an
advising appointment.
Come
prepared to each appointment with questions or materials for discussion and ask
questions if you do not understand
an issue or have a specific concern.
Read your UT Arlington e-mail and use it as the official means of communication with UT Arlington faculty and staff.
Subscribe to the Education Undergraduate Listserv.
Enroll in the courses you and the advisor agreed upon based on your educational objectives.
Follow through when referred to appropriate campus resources.
