Teaching

Dr. Andrew Clark teaches broadcasting, intercultural communication, visual communication, law and ethics, qualitative and historical research methods.

Research

Dr. Clark's research methodology is primarily qualitative and historical. His primary area of research is international broadcasting dealing with propaganda, public opinion and foreign policy. He has published in journals such as The Journal of Radio Studies, Journal of Middle East Media, International Communication Gazette, Global Media Journal, American Journalism, and others. Dr. Clark has had papers presented recently at the Broadcast Education Association and World Association of Public Opinion Research conferences.

Research

Dr. Jang is interested in the design, implementation, and effects of communication technology in various contexts. In particular, his research efforts have been focused on the following areas: (1) distant collaborations via electronic media in the context of virtual teams and online gaming (MMORPG) communities, and (2) people\\\'s blogging behaviors, their social and psychological antecedents and impacts. Dr. Jang has published articles in Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Information, Communication & Society, Journal of CSCW, Journal of Human-Computer Studies, etc.

Dr. Eronini Megwa teaches classes in mass communication, public relations, journalism, intercultural and international communication.

Research

Dr. Megwa's research areas are: media and society/information and communication technology and social development; agenda-setting; media and democracy in transitional societies; and media performance. He uses content analysis, qualitative and quantitative methods in his research. His publications are in the areas of new media and development; integrating old and new media to facilitate development access for underserved communities in the developed and developing world. He is currently working on the use of media for poverty reduction. Dr. Megwa has published in the Howard Journal of Communications, Journal of Radio Studies, and Journalism Studies.

Dr. Sasha Grant teaches communication theory, corporate communication, managerial communication, global communication and international communication.

Research

Dr. Grant's research field is organizational communication and her research areas include organizational identity, organizational culture, charismatic leadership, and organizational narratives and storytelling. In line with a critical-interpretive approach, her research focuses on the narrative character of identity in modern organizations. She uses diverse methods to look at issues surrounding narratives of (organizational) identity such as: in-depth interviews, thematic analysis, textual and document analysis, rhetorical criticism, and critical narrative analysis. Dr. Grant has presented her research to the International Communication Association and other conferences.

Dr. Brian Horton teaches undergraduate courses in the communication technology sequence including visual communication, website communication, human-computer interaction, and advanced website communication.

Research

Dr. Horton\'s research examines the role of prosody in collaborative activities. This includes exploring the relation between prosodic features and structure in the grounding process. His previous research focused on entertainment theory, cross-cultural conceptions of love in marriage and friendship, and supportive communication in bereavement. He has published in Communication Research, International Journal of Intercultural Relations, and Visual Communication Quarterly. Recently, he has presented conference papers at the International Association of Langaguage and Social Psychology Conference and the National Communication Association Conference.

Research

Dr. Lopez-Preciado\'s research areas include the advertising industry in Latin America, Latino Identity in the U.S., and Multicultural Consumer Marketing. He uses both quantitative and qualitative methods in his research, including: surveys, focus groups, in-depth interviews, and legal research. He has presented his research at both international and national conferences, including the International Association of Media and Communication Researchers, the International Communication Association, the Arab-U.S. Association of Communication Educators, and the National Communication Association. His most recent work has looked at the Mexican advertising industry\'s adoption of the discipline of Account Planning.

Dr. Pribanic-Smith teaches reporting and feature writing.

Research

Dr. Pribanic-Smith specializes in research examining political communication in the print media of the 19th- and 20th-century American South. Specifically, she focuses on the use of editorials and letters to the editor to disseminate political ideology. Dr. Pribanic-Smith has had academic articles published in American Journalism and Atlanta Review of Journalism History, and she is a frequent presenter at the national convention of American Journalism Historians Association as well as in the history division of Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Research

Dr. Su\\\\\\\'s primary research interests include using a social network perspective to study how group members with distributed expertise share information through computer-mediated communication, and investigating the social impact of communication technologies on communication processes in organizational settings. His theoretical and methodological approaches center around social network theories and network analysis techniques. Dr Su has published in Communication Theory and recently presented his research at the XXVIII International Social Network Conference and the International Communication Association.

Teaching

Dr. Harp teaches editorial and opinion writing, specialized reporting, and writing for the mass media. Prior to coming to UTA she also taught news reporting and news design courses as well as a course on women and journalism. At the graduate level she has taught qualitative methods for mass media and critical and cultural media theories.

Research

Dr. Harp\'s research is primarily qualitative though much of her work utilizes mixed methods. From critical and cultural theoretical perspectives her research investigates the intersections of journalism, new media (Internet, blogging, virtual worlds, and social networks), public spheres, globalization, and women and marginalized groups. Dr. Harp has published academic articles in Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly, Communication, Culture and Critique, Information, Communication and Society, Journalism Studies, Journalism: Theory, Practice & Criticism, Journal of Magazine and New Media Research, and The Howard Journal of Communication. Her book, titled Desperately Seeking Women Readers: Newspapers and the Construction of a Female Readership, was published in 2007.
