The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) elected new officers to open positions last week to carry out the organization’s plans for the semester.

Chapter President Kevin Luong said several PRSSA officers graduated or stepped down to focus on studies their senior year, but other members are stepping up to take over.

"It was good to get this out of the way so we can get to work,” Luong said.  â€œEverybody’s anxious to get started.”

Jennifer Garcia, the new PRSSA events coordinator, said this is her first year as a member of the PRSSA and she looks forward to helping organize the events.

“I don’t want to just be a member, I want to help and be involved,” Garcia said.

Some of the newest PRSSA officers are also members of other UTA organizations..

“It’s good to see that they’re really active in the organizations so we can have more networking,” Luong said.

PRSSA elected Public Relations major Brandon Demings to the position of recruitment coordinator.

“My job is to go to different clubs and organizations and classes to help them (students) see the benefits of joining PRSSA,” Demings said. Upcoming events and orientations will allow more students to find out about PRSSA and the many workshops, activities and events the organization plans each semester.

Luong said it will not be hard for the new officers to transition into their new roles.

“It’s just a matter of planning and educating,” he added.

The UTA chapter of PRSSA meets at 3:30 p.m. each Thursday  in Room 327 of the Fine Arts building.   All students interested in Public Relations and Communication are welcome to attend.
