College of Science August 2016 graduates & December 2016 graduation candidates:
Congratulations on reaching this long-anticipated milestone! Please take time to read through this important information before contacting us with questions, as the answers to most common questions are contained herein. The combined ceremony recognizing the August and December 2016 graduates from the College of Science and the College of Education is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, December 16 in College Park Center (CPC) on the UT Arlington campus.
Please note that the College of Science does not require an additional RSVP or registration to participate in our ceremony. If you are receiving this message, you are on the College of Science list for graduation, so you do not need to further confirm that you are on the list. .
Graduates should arrive at Gate 1 of CPC (west side of building at 3rd Street and Spaniolo Drive) for check-in between 5:30 and 6:15 p.m. No rehearsal is required, but it is important that you arrive on time so that you can receive all the necessary instructions. Your families and guests will enter CPC through Gates 2 and 3 (northwest and north entries to CPC) which will open at 6 p.m. for guest seating. Be sure to print your graduate ticket when accessing tickets for your guests and bring it with you to the ceremony! Tickets are required for everyone attending the ceremony, including children. Guests and graduates must arrive with printed tickets. Tickets cannot be scanned from the screen of a smart phone, iPad, or other electronic device.
Please follow these instructions carefully so you don’t miss your opportunity to claim tickets:
Ticketing Offer #1: November 22-December 5
: The ticketing site will go live at approximately 10 a.m. on November 22. You will need to log into www.utatickets.com
and follow the prompts to claim your graduate ticket, up to 6 guaranteed guest tickets reserved in your name, and up to 4 additional guest tickets while quantities last. This offer will expire at noon on Monday, December 5, at which time your graduate ticket and six reserved guest tickets will no longer be available.
All unclaimed guest tickets will be returned to a central ticketing pool for redistribution. The number of additional tickets past this point will depend entirely on how many graduates have already claimed tickets, but with the larger number of graduates from our combined colleges there is no guarantee that additional tickets will be available in Rounds 2 or 3.
Ticketing Offer #2: December 6–12: Graduates may be able to claim additional guest tickets (if available) from the central ticketing pool while quantities last. The number of additional tickets (if any) will be determined by the number of unclaimed tickets from Round 1. This offer begins at 10 a.m. on December 6 and expires at noon on December 12
Ticketing Offer #3: December 13–16:
Graduates may be able to claim additional guest tickets (if available) from the central ticketing pool while quantities last. The number of additional tickets (if any) will be determined by the number of unclaimed tickets from Round 2. This offer begins at 10:00 a.m. on December 13 and expires at noon on December 16.
For the convenience of your guests who may not be able to attend in person, we are excited to announce that the ceremony will be live-streamed so it can be viewed online in real time at www.uta.edu/commencement
. The ceremony will also be professionally videotaped and will be available at no charge for download several weeks afterward on the same website.
Please stop by the UT Arlington Bookstore as soon as possible, or call them at 817-272-2785 for complete information on ordering caps and gowns. The deadline for ordering regalia for all graduates (both undergrad and grad students) is Friday, November 4
. If you are outside the DFW area and need to order your regalia and have it shipped to you, contact the Bookstore for instructions.
Graduation announcements or invitations are completely optional; if desired, they can be ordered online at www.jostens.com
. FLASH Photography will photograph each graduate both on-stage and backstage during the commencement ceremony. Complimentary proofs will be mailed to the graduates soon after the ceremony, using information you will provide on the back of your graduate card at check-in. Parking for the ceremony is available in the Park South, Park Central and Park North Garages on Center Street between UTA Boulevard and CPC. Additional parking is available in Lots 38, 39, F11, F12, 47, 53, F10, and at Lipscomb Hall and the Center for Continuing Education. There will be a drop-off for guests with mobility issues on Spaniolo Drive across from the main CPC entrance in the Arlington Hall circle drive. for locations. Please be sure that your guests are aware that they may have to walk several blocks from parking areas to reach CPC from parking areas.
Please notify your guests that graduates will exit the arena through a private hallway onto Moritz Plaza on the north side of CPC. Guests will exit through the north, northeast and northwest entrances, and should plan to meet graduates on Moritz Plaza. It may be helpful to identify a meeting spot in that area prior to the ceremony. Please make your guests aware that helium balloons and strollers are not allowed in CPC, and should be left in their vehicles. If these items are brought to CPC, they must be checked at Guest Services prior to the ceremony.
Regarding attire, graduates must wear the university-specified regalia appropriate to their degree, which is to be purchased at the UTA Bookstore. There are no requirements for what should be worn with your regalia. Decoration of mortar boards is allowed, as long as the message contains no obscenities. If you’ve decorated yours, please be sure our photographer finds you backstage – it’s always fun to see how creative our grads can be!.
Be aware that you may be standing for long periods of time and walking on concrete, so please wear comfortable shoes. If you have any mobility issues or need any other form of accommodation, please notify Lori Norris no later than Friday, December 2 so appropriate arrangements can be made. Because there is no secure storage area backstage during the ceremony and you will not return backstage, no personal items should be brought backstage, including purses, keys, cameras, sunglasses, etc. This includes cell phones! Please leave all personal items locked in your car out of sight, or with your guests.
