Education and Science Receive $350,000 Extension Grant

The College of Education and the College of Science at UT Arlington have been awarded a $350,000 extension to their Math, Science and Technology Teacher Preparation Academy grant from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB). Professor Ann Cavallo, College of Education, and Assistant Dean Greg Hale (College of Science) were originally awarded $350,000 under this program in October 2008. The funding primarily provides scholarships for practicing middle and high school science teachers to pursue Master's degrees. Under the original grant, 24 teachers have been supported in their graduate coursework, and the first cohort is on track to graduate in December 2010. The August 2009 extension brings the total THECB support for the program to $700,000 and will allow for the recruitment of an additional cohort of master's students. This new cohort will begin their coursework in January 2010 and graduate in August 2011.
