UT ARLINGTON CHEMISTRY & PHYSICS BUILDING RECEIVES AWARD FOR BEST DESIGN
The University of Texas at Arlington’s new Chemistry and Physics Building, designed by the Dallas office of Perkins & Will, has been awarded the best design in Higher Education for 2006 by Texas Construction magazine. The 128,000 square-foot Chemistry and Physics Building, 700 Planetarium Place, boasts state-of-the-art teaching and research labs for chemistry, biochemistry and physics, as well as the state's newest planetarium. Texas Construction is an industry-leading commercial construction publication.  Its annual competition recognizes construction and design excellence from around the state. An independent jury of industry experts in design and construction judged 112 nominated projects in a variety of categories in early September.  The jury awarded projects based on entry criteria including project management, overcoming the challenges of the job, client service and safety. Design entries were judged on unity with nearby societal and environmental elements, among other criteria. The 65 winners will be featured in the December 2006 issue of Texas Construction and will be honored at an awards luncheon at the Renaissance Houston Hotel on Dec. 5.
