Penny Acrey, LMSW is the Associate Director for the Office for Students
with Disabilities. Penny is a graduate of the UT Arlington School of Social
Work, where her clinical and research interests have focused on
disability and trauma. She has presented her work at the Riverside
Conference on Disability and Abuse in Riverside, California in 2003;
the National Association of Social Workers State Conference in Arlington,
Texas in 2003 and 2006; and the Association of Traumatic Stress Specialists
International Conference in Vancouver, B.C. in 2004. Penny has been
an advocate for people with disabilities in her community long before
becoming a Licensed Social Worker. She currently serves on advisory
councils for the Fort Worth Independent School District Department
of Special Education, Helping Restore Ability (HRA) and the Catholic
Diocese of Fort Worth. She is a member of the Board of Directors
for REACH. Penny serves as counselor to students with all types
of disabilities.
Education includes the following:
- BS in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington,
2002
- MS in Social Work from the University of Texas at Arlington,
2004
- While at UT Arlington, Penny was President of the Phi Alpha Social Work
Honor Society as well as the Social Work Constituency Council.
She was also a member of Alpha Chi, Golden Key, and the UT Arlington chapter
of NASW.
Professional experience includes the following:
- Crisis intervention/case management at Women's Haven Shelter
and Counseling Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
- Clinical counseling with individuals, groups and couples at
The Women's Center, General Counseling Program in Fort Worth,
Texas.
