Background
Dr. Butler’s research interests include uncooled infrared detectors, micro-electromechanical devices (MEMS), microfabrication and thin film deposition. He has published more than 85 journal articles and conference presentations and holds four patents.
Dr. Butler is a senior member of the IEEE, a member of the SPIE, and the American Physical Society. He is active in the IEEE. He has served as the Chair of the IEEE Dallas Section and the IEEE Dallas Chapter of Electron Devices. He is a recipient of the IEEE Third Millennium Medal and is an IEEE Electron Device Society Distinguished Lecturer. Dr. Butler joined the Electrical Engineering Department at Southern Methodist University in 1987 as an Assistant Professor. He was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor in 1993 and Professor in 2001. He joined the faculty of Electrical Engineering at The University of Texas at Arlington in 2002
