Financial Aid

Graduate Research and Teaching Assistantships (GRA/GTA) are awarded on a competitive basis. The GTA or GRA cannot be awarded to probationary or provisional students. In addition, GTAs are not usually awarded the first semester.

Graduate Research Assistantship

Graduate Research Assistantships are awarded at the discretion of individual faculty members and are subject to available funding. They are very competitive and are typically obtained by contacting the professor once you are on campus, enrolled as a full-time graduate student.

Graduate Teaching Assistantship

Outstanding students in the electrical engineering program are eligible to apply for graduate teaching assistantships. In addition to a monthly salary, EE GTAs are entitled to in-state tuition rates. These positions are highly competitive and the selection process is comprehensive. Only a small percentage of applicants will be appointed. Final appointments will be determined by the needs of the department.

Enhanced Graduate Teaching Fellowship/Assistantship

Provost and Dean’s Level Enhanced Graduate Teaching Fellowships/Assistantships in the Electrical Engineering Department of the College of Engineering are available on a competitive basis to students beginning their first semester of study in UT Arlington doctoral or doctoral-bound programs.  These packages provide tuition coverage and competitive assistantship stipends for up to five years.  This support may consist of some combination of Enhanced Graduate Teaching Assistantships (EGTAs) with full tuition fellowships (tuition plus College of Engineering fee), graduate teaching assistantships with STEM tuition fellowships, or grant-funded research assistantships with STEM tuition fellowships. Requirements include a 50% graduate assistantship, full-time enrollment, and unconditional admission.

Provost and Dean’s EGTAs require the following GRE scores:

  • Provost – Quantitative 770 – Verbal 500
  • Dean’s – Quantitative 750 – Verbal 450

Exceptions to the GRE scores can be made with additional criteria considered.
