Ph.D. Student Receives AGI Scholarship

Ron Tingook, Geology Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Environmental
Science, has been awarded the American Geological Institute's Minority Scholarship for 2009-10 school year. the AGI Minority Participation Program (MPP) committee selects outstanding candidates each year and awards a dollar amount to the students in the fall. Ron Tin gook received his B. Sc. (geology) from the University of Hawaii at Hilo in 1999. Upon graduation, he worked as an intern at the USGS on coal-bed methane studies in Alaska and northeast TX (Carthage). From there he went to work for the Arctic Slope Regional Corporation in Anchorage, Alaska. After a few years at the ASRC he went to the Colorado School of Mines receiving his M. Sc. (geology) in 2006. From there he went to work for Schlumberger oilfield service company working as a reservoir geologist. Ron Started his Ph.D. at UTA in the 08-09 school year, where he is pursuing fluvial reservoir modeling under Dr. Holbrook.
