This is a two year program with specialization in stratigraphy, paleontology, sedimentology, oceanography, structural geology, tectonics, plate tectonics, computer modeling, geophysics, igneous petrology, volcanology, geochemistry and paleoclimatology. An oral thesis defense is required. Students in this program are prepared for additional graduate work at the PhD. level, or for positions in industry and government. Thesis and non-thesis options are available. The non-thesis option requires a research report and additional course work. M.S. in Environmental and Earth Science

This is a multidisciplinary program with courses in civil engineering, geology, biology, chemistry, and Urban and Public Affairs. An undergraduate degree in science or engineering is a prerequisite for admission. Electives in graduate geology, hydrology, environmental geology, geophysics or geochemistry courses provide focus within the interdisciplinary structure. Graduates are prepared for interdisciplinary communication and will be competent in positions requiring solution of complex environmental problems. This degree is excellent preparation for environmental programs at the Ph.D. degree level and for positions in the environmental industry. A final program examination is required. Thesis and non-thesis options are available. The non-thesis option requires a research report and additional course work.

Ph.D. in Environmental and Earth Science

This program requires a minimum of three years beyond the masters degree, which must be in one of the biological, physical, earth or environmental sciences for admission. Thirty semester hours of appropriate graduate courses are required for admission without a masters degree. One year of course work beyond the EES masters degree is normally required. A dissertation, diagnostic examination, comprehensive examination, and oral dissertation defense are required. Proficiency in one foreign language, or advanced computer skills, research statistics, or operations research must be demonstrated.
