Office of the President

April 19, 2017

Dear Members of the UTA Community:

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Teik C. Lim, Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati (UC), has accepted our offer to serve as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs of UTA. Dr. Lim was selected after an extensive international search that attracted a deep pool of distinguished and accomplished scholars and administrators, and the full announcement of his appointment can be found at uta.edu/news/.

In his role as the Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Lim oversaw significant growth in enrollment, reputation, faculty size, corporate partnerships, research funding and endowments. A strong believer in collaboration, Dr. Lim established a unique UC Simulation Center funded by P&G, and strengthened the partnership between the College of Engineering and Applied Science, the College of Medicine and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital through an interdisciplinary biomedical engineering initiative, in addition to initiating very successful international collaborations and partnerships.

An internationally recognized engineer, Dr. Lim is a Fellow of ASME – the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and of SAE – the Society of Automotive Engineers, and has received numerous research and teaching awards including the Arch T. Colwell Merit Award and the Ralph R. Teetor Educational Award. He has published extensively in archival journals and conference proceedings, and holds a number of patents.

He will be joining us on June 30th but will travel between Cincinnati and Arlington a number of times in the interim so as to ensure both a smooth transition and to ensure that we do not lose our momentum. I am confident that under his leadership we will continue on our spectacular trajectory towards being the model 21st Century Urban Research University. I am excited about the progress being made at UTA and hope you feel as excited and confident about our trajectory and future as I do.

Regards,

Vistasp M. Karbhari
President
