Welcome, Mavericks!

President Vistasp Karbhari welcomed new and returning Mavericks to campus this week at the annual MavsMeet Convocation in College Park Center. Attendees were treated to performances from the UT Arlington bands, Los Potrillos Mariachi and the UT Arlington A Cappella choir as well as keynote speaker Shayla Rivera, a comedian and writer.

. Stimulating Education .

Stimulating Education

UT Arlington has partnered with the Arlington school district to launch the new STEM Academy at Martin High School. The Academy offers students in grades 9 through 12 new opportunities to prepare for academic success along four science, technology, engineering and math pathways. The charter class of 125 students was selected from more than 200 applicants districtwide. Participants will have the opportunity to earn up to 32 hours of college credit before they graduate from high school.

Hot Shots

The University of Texas System Board of Regents has approved an agreement that will enable the WNBA team relocating from Tulsa, Okla., to play the next five seasons at UT Arlington’s College Park Center beginning in 2016. The women’s professional basketball team will host 17 regular season home games a year at College Park Center, adding new national exposure for UTA.

Winning Designs

Mark Harris, a Colorado Springs-based architect and a 1986 graduate of UT Arlington, has been invited to exhibit at La Biennale in Venice, Italy. La Biennale is a prestigious festival for those in the art and architecture world, akin to walking the red carpet at Cannes or the Oscars.

Maverick Open

Support UTA Athletics and meet and greet coaches and student-athletes at the Maverick Open, formerly the Chip‑N‑Classic, at Texas Star Golf Course. Proceeds benefit all current 14 NCAA Division I programs and will help launch the addition of women’s golf for the 2017‑18 season. UTA Nights at the Levitt Begin Sept. 25

Enjoy music under the stars at the downtown Arlington outdoor pavilion. The program kicks off Friday, Sept. 25, with a concert by Luke Wade, a finalist on NBC’s The Voice competition. On Saturday, Sept. 26, the UTA Wind Symphony takes the stage. The UTA Jazz Orchestra will be joined by Swedish jazz masters Stefan Karlsson and Magnus Broo on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Women’s Basketball vs. Baylor in Waco

The UT Arlington women’s basketball team tips off the 2015‑16 season vs. Baylor in the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament in Waco. Plans are in the works for a serious showing of Maverick Pride at Baylor. Watch UT Arlington email for updates on when tickets go on sale.
