. Maverick Speakers Series .

Maverick Speakers Series

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 8, for the 2015-2016 Maverick Speakers Series and kickoff lecture featuring actress and activist Mia Farrow. This year’s series also brings entrepreneur Daymond John of Shark Tank fame to College Park Center on November 10. Former Congressman and Libertarian leader Ron Paul, political strategist Donna Brazile, and primatologist Jane Goodall round out the season. A new season ticket package is available through September 30 that includes two reserved seats plus extra perks. General admission is free, but tickets are required. Get tickets at utatickets.com.

. Picturing App .

Picturing App

Researchers at UTA have developed a computer program to automatically create a working app from an artist’s concept. The product, called PixeltoApp, may soon enter the marketplace, aided by a National Science Foundation I‑Corps grant. Christoph Csallner, an associate professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department, is the team’s primary investigator.

Top Scholars

UTA welcomes 20 student leaders who have demonstrated strong academic ability into its charter class of Terry Foundation Scholars for the 2015‑16 academic year. Established by Houston philanthropists Howard and Nancy Terry, the scholarships benefit outstanding Texas high school graduates and transfer students who attend public colleges and universities within the state.

Taking the Stage

Afton Foreman was named theatre director/coordinator of Waco’s Jubilee Theatre, and is also responsible for running Mission Waco theater, developing children’s programming, and expanding the audience. “The Jubilee’s in my heart,” says Foreman, a Waco native and 2010 graduate of UTA. “I love the people. I love the place.”

Maverick Open

Support UTA Athletics and meet and greet coaches and student-athletes at the Maverick Open, formerly the Chip‑N‑Classic, at Texas Star Golf Course. Proceeds benefit all current 14 NCAA Division I programs and will help launch the addition of women’s golf for the 2017‑18 season. UTA Nights at the Levitt Begin Sept. 25

Enjoy music under the stars at the downtown Arlington outdoor pavilion. The program kicks off Friday, Sept. 25, with a concert by Luke Wade, a finalist on NBC’s The Voice competition. On Saturday, Sept. 26, the UTA Wind Symphony takes the stage. The UTA Jazz Orchestra will be joined by Swedish jazz masters Stefan Karlsson and Magnus Broo on Sunday, Sept. 27.

Women’s Basketball vs. Baylor in Waco

The UT Arlington women’s basketball team tips off the 2015‑16 season vs. Baylor in the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament in Waco. Plans are in the works for a serious showing of Maverick Pride at Baylor. Watch UT Arlington email for updates on when tickets go on sale.
