Smart Controller

UTA electrical engineers have patented an innovative method that improves a controller’s ability to make real-time decisions. Electrical engineering Professor Frank Lewis and his team have developed Integral Reinforcement Learning, a process by which a device learns and makes control decisions in reaction to a set of variables that changes based on each previous decision.

Inspiring Exploration

A new active stereo 3‑D show at The Planetarium at UT Arlington will transform learning for students and planetarium visitors interested in exploring the mysteries of our galaxy and beyond. The Planetarium, which is housed within the College of Science, soon will begin public showings of SOFIA 3‑D, a short science film based on NASA’s research and outreach mission Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy, or SOFIA.

Ralph Hawkins, chairman of the global architecture firm HKS and a UTA architecture alumnus, was recently named to The Order of St John. The order of chivalry is a major international humanitarian charity accredited to the United Nations, the branches of which provide health care and first responder services in more than 40 nations around the world.

Game Days

Cheer on the Mavs this fall as UTA teams compete in volleyball and tennis as well as cross country and men’s golf. Check out the full schedule at utamavs.com. Youth age 12 and under can join Blaze’s Kids Club to get free admission to UTA home athletics events, fan gear, and even special on-court recognition at Kids Club Night.

UTA Nights at the Levitt Begin Sept. 25

Enjoy music under the stars at the downtown Arlington outdoor pavilion. The program kicks off Friday, Sept. 25, with a concert by Luke Wade, a finalist on NBC’s The Voice competition. On Saturday, Sept. 26, the UTA Wind Symphony takes the stage. The UTA Jazz Orchestra will be joined by Swedish jazz masters Stefan Karlsson and Magnus Broo on Sunday, Sept. 27. A VIP package including reserved seats and dinner from the J. Gilligan’s tent is available for the Luke Wade concert for $15 per person. Purchase tickets at https://alumni.uta.edu/utanightatlevitt.

Women’s Basketball vs. Baylor in Waco
