Celebrating Dr. Saxe

UTA celebrated 50 years of Allan Saxe at a reception for the associate professor of political science. The event included a who’s who of political leaders, local officials, and campus administrators. Texas Sen. Royce West (B.A., Sociology, ’76, M.A., Sociology, ’79), and former Arlington Mayor Richard Greene told tales about Dr. Saxe’s career and influence on students, politicians, and politics.

Nursing Excellence

Faculty, staff, and students of the UTA College of Nursing and Health Innovation gathered this week for a briefing on the college’s accomplishments, recognition of outstanding employees, and plans for the future. Texas Sen. Kelly Hancock presented the college with a proclamation in honor of the school’s prestigious recognition as a National League for Nursing Center of Excellence.

University Outreach

UTA’s University Crossroads program has been recognized with the 2015 Miguel Hidalgo Award by the Oak Cliff Coalition for the Arts for its educational outreach and widespread impact on the Hispanic community in Dallas. In announcing the annual honor, the organization cited accomplishments that UTA has achieved over the past few years in providing access to those in pursuit of higher education.

. Laying a Foundation .

Laying a Foundation

UTA’s Division of Enterprise Development has partnered with more than 20 companies and an industry council to create two masonry schools that will address a shortage of masons. Acme Brick has donated $50,000 to start the schools. Contractors and manufacturers from across the state, along with the Waco-based Texas Masonry Council, have donated money and in‑kind contributions that total more than $225,000 to kick-start the schools.

UTA Weekend at the Levitt Begins Sept. 25

Enjoy music under the stars at the downtown Arlington outdoor pavilion. The program kicks off Friday, Sept. 25, with a concert by Luke Wade, a finalist on NBC’s The Voice competition. On Saturday, Sept. 26, the UTA Wind Symphony takes the stage. The UTA Jazz Orchestra will be joined by Swedish jazz masters Stefan Karlsson and Magnus Broo on Sunday, Sept. 27. A VIP package including reserved seats and dinner from the J. Gilligan’s tent is available for the Luke Wade concert for $15 per person. Purchase tickets at https://alumni.uta.edu/utanightatlevitt.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2015‑16 Maverick Speakers Series kickoff event, an Oct. 8 lecture by actress and activist Mia Farrow titled What Falls Away: One Woman’s Journey to Fulfillment. 7:30 p.m. lecture at Texas Hall. Women’s Basketball vs. Baylor in Waco

The UTA women’s basketball team tips off the 2015‑16 season vs. Baylor in the Preseason Women’s National Invitational Tournament in Waco. We’re rallying all alumni, students, faculty, staff, and supporters to pack Baylor’s Ferrell Center with Maverick Pride. Tickets are expected to go on sale Oct. 1. Watch UTA email and social media feeds for the latest on tickets and pre‑game activities.
