Bed Races Return

Now in its 35th year, the annual UTA Bed Races are one of the University’s longest-running traditions. This year teams will continue the tradition at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 7, in Maverick Stadium. General admission to this event is free and open to the campus and community.

Preventing Alzheimer’s

Heng Huang, a professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department, won a $2 million grant through the National Institutes of Health to use genomic data to identify biomarkers that may be used for early prediction of Alzheimer’s disease.

Maverick Manager

Cliff Keheley, who began his career with the city of Mesquite 21 years ago as a UTA student working on his master’s degree in public administration, has been named Mesquite city manager. “I am glad I can continue to stay in Mesquite and support the community,” Keheley says.

Maverick Speakers Series: Mia Farrow

Tickets are now on sale for the 2015‑16 Maverick Speakers Series kickoff event, an Oct. 8 lecture by actress and activist Mia Farrow titled What Falls Away: One Woman’s Journey to Fulfillment. 7:30 p.m. lecture at Texas Hall. InnovationDay@UTA

Celebrate entrepreneurial excellence and success among UTA students, faculty, and researchers, as well as innovators in the surrounding community. InnovationDay@UTA aims to stimulate local entrepreneurship and innovation and includes high school and college robotics competitions, inspiring speakers, and opportunities to meet with angel investors. Held at College Park Center, InnovationDay@UTA is free but preregistration is required.

Tickets go on sale Tuesday, Oct. 6, for the 2015‑16 Maverick Speakers Series lecture by entrepreneur Daymond John, founder of the global lifestyle brand FUBU who appears on the television show Shark Tank. Waco Road Trip

Hey Maverick nation, be part of the MavStorm heading to Waco on Friday, Nov. 13, when the Lady Mavs take on the Baylor Bears. Tickets are $30 for alumni and $15 for students and include a ride aboard a chartered bus to and from the 6 p.m. game in Waco’s Ferrell Center. Check uta.edu/homecoming for updates.
