Dear UTA alumni,

It was wonderful to see so many of you last week for Homecoming 2015 celebrations! For those who missed it, we’re sharing video and photo highlights below of what has become a focal point for the academic year. We celebrated our next class of distinguished alumni and we watched in amazement as two current business students translate their hobby solving Rubik’s Cubes into a for-profit endeavor. Be sure to email us with your good news. Go Mavs!

Homecoming 2015

From our Friday road trip to see the Lady Mavs basketball team play Baylor to Saturday’s parade, street festival, and men’s basketball win over Fordham, Homecoming Week was packed with fun. We’ve enjoyed seeing all the posts across Facebook and Twitter. View video highlights of the week and check out our Homecoming 2015 photo gallery.

Distinguished Alumni

It’s a tradition dating to the earliest years of UTA, and this year’s 50th annual Distinguished Alumni Awards was pure gold. Honorees Sohrab Charna, Tamara Hext Hilliard, Raj Malik, Alan and Bonnie Petsche, and Distinguished Honorary Alumnus Arnold Petsche each graciously recalled the impact that UTA has had on their lives and expressed support for the University on the rise. View a photo gallery from the event and watch our video celebrating the model 21st century urban research university.

Entrepreneurial Endeavors

Long before Anthony Brooks and his brother Brian enrolled in the UTA College of Business, they were fiddling with Rubik’s Cubes on long bus rides to school in their South Texas community. Fast forward to today, and Anthony Brooks is a world-recognized “speed-cuber” who is using his business education to turn a hobby into a business. Read more about the brothers and see Anthony solve the puzzle in 10 seconds flat. (He has solved it in 6.42 seconds, a North American record at the time.)

Public Servant

Many public servants, city managers, mayors, and other governmental leaders got their start at UTA, and we are pleased to salute one more success story within our alumni ranks. Ken Freeman, formerly a deputy fire chief in Fort Worth, was named fire chief for the city of Burleson this month. He begins his new position Feb. 1. Freeman earned a bachelor’s degree in public administration in 1993.
