Dear UTA alumni,

The new year is off to a busy start as we prepare to welcome students back for the spring semester. This week, the University pays tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. and celebrates those who have shared the late civil rights leader’s dream of equality and justice with several events including the annual Advancing the Dream Awards Banquet and the annual MLK Day of Service. We’re also looking ahead to the upcoming baseball and softball season. Please drop us a note about your UTA success story at utacommunications@uta.edu. Go Mavs!

Scientific Discovery

Jaehoon Yu, professor of physics, led the UTA team that organized a campus conference this week of more than 150 international physicists to collaborate on the game-changing particle physics experiment known as the Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment, or DUNE. The Department of Energy project aims to solve the question of how the universe came to consist of matter rather than antimatter—in other words, to explain the origins of the universe and why we exist at all.
