Earlier this week, both the men's and women's basketball teams packed up and headed out to New Orleans to play in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Tournament. The Lady Mavericks received the six seed in the tournament and lost a heartbreaker to Louisiana Wednesday night. The men earned the three seed and will play the winner of Thursday's opening round match between Georgia State and Texas State. For more information including game times, media coverage, purchasing tournament session passes, and following the progress of both teams, follow the Alumni Relations posts on social media.

Alternative Spring Break

While scores of college students across the country will head to sandy beaches or snowy mountain tops for spring break, many UTA students will experience an equally memorable if not life-changing trip during their time off this spring. On March 13th, a group of UTA students will board buses bound for St. Louis, Missouri and will spend the week volunteering at different local community organizations before heading back to Arlington. The trip is part of the Alternative Breaks program sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and offers students the chance to serve others while learning how they can make a difference.

UTA Baseball at Globe Life Park

After wins over Oklahoma State and Baylor to start the season, the UTA baseball team looks to knock off another Big XII conference team when they take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders this Tuesday, March 15, at Globe Life Park. General admission tickets are available at utatickets.com for the 7:00 pm contest. Fans are encouraged to tailgate in Parking Lot B starting at 4:00 pm. This is a rare chance to watch your Mavs baseball team compete against a quality opponent in a professional stadium and is your opportunity to root for your Mavs in a great atmosphere.

Alumni Spotlight

Katie Leino, UTA alumna and scholarship donor, made an impact in a student's life because her late husband made a difference in hers. Katie was honored at last week's College of Nursing and Health Innovation's Dream Makers Luncheon for her commitment to fund a scholarship that established her husband's legacy at UTA. Watch her tell her story in this video that was shared at the luncheon, an annual event that brings together scholarship donors with their recipients. To learn more about how you can make a difference through a scholarship gift, contact University Development and Alumni Relations.
