The UTA women's tennis team opens play in the Sun Belt Championship this Friday after the second straight season in which they were undefeated at home. The team was also recognized this past week for their outstanding academic performance. They were one of fourteen Sun Belt Programs to earn an NCAA Public Recognition Award for their Academic Progress Rate, the definitive metric used to measure how well an athletic program performs in the classroom. The nationally ranked women's team starts tournament play on Friday at 11:30 a.m. against Louisiana.

Jazz Brunch Recap

A big thank you to all the alumni and friends who came out to the UTA Jazz Brunch last Saturday at the Fort Worth Main St. Arts Festival. Pictures of the event can be found on the Alumni Relations social media page for those who attended. UTA was a main stage sponsor again this year and hosted an informational booth that was visited by many proud alumni and supporters. It was a great time for community building in Fort Worth and further extended the UTA brand into Dallas/Fort Worth area communities.

Honoring Commitment

Do you remember that one faculty or staff member who made a difference in your life while at UTA? Over the past several weeks, President Karbhari has taken the time to remind those of us on campus about our shared purpose to advance education and impact lives at the annual Employee Recognition Ceremony and Outstanding Maverick Awards Ceremony. Check if your favorite professor or administrator is still on campus and see this year's service award winners and outstanding Mavericks. Jerry Rodnitzky, pictured here, was awarded his pin for 50 years of service.

Major General Lester Simpson accomplished many firsts and continues to make history. He was the first African-American batallion commander in the Texas Army National Guard and is currently the first African-American commanding general of the 36th Infantry Division. A UTA alum, Major General Simpson has been a strong UTA supporter and has served as a mentor for ROTC cadets since his graduation. He was nominated by the Cadet Corps Alumni Council and chosen by the College of Liberal Arts to serve as the commencement speaker for the College this May.
