Saluting our Veterans

UTA demonstrated its appreciation for students, faculty, and staff who served in the U.S. armed forces during Veterans Day 2016 events across campus this past week. The weeklong celebration began with a Veterans Day Kickoff Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Student Veterans Assistance Center. The event featured remarks by Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams and Air Force veteran and state Rep. Tony Tinderholt, R-Arlington. READ MORE

DAA Honorees
Recognizing excellence

The UTA family gathered Thursday night to honor some of its very best at the annual Distinguished Alumni Awards. The event anchors a week of Homecoming celebrations and showcased the many ways in which UTA alumni have impacted the state of Texas and beyond. This year's winners are the Honorable B. Glen Whitley, Tarrant County Judge; C. Keith Cargill, finance executive; Daniel P. Hughes, US Army Major General; Liz Johnson, Acute Care CIO; and Jocelyn Zee, JPS physician. #HumanMooc

Researchers at UTA are launching a Massive Open Online Course on Nov. 14 to help online instructors of college and university courses replicate the sense of connectedness and community that helps engage and retain classroom-based students within an online environment. Cornell University and Princess Nora University of Saudi Arabia are also participating in the project. READ MORE

The newly opened UTA Career Development Center is actively seeking alumni willing to share their professional wisdom as career mentors to current Mavericks. Volunteer today to help prepare students for tomorrow's workforce.

John Lackey

Congratulations to John Lackey and the Chicago Cubs for winning the 2016 World Series! Lackey is one of many former UTA players in Major League Baseball and helped the Cubs win a championship for the first time in 108 years.

Nothing but Net

Mavericks living in the Austin area and those traveling to watch the November 29 basketball game between UTA and the UT Longhorns are invited to a pre-game social gathering at Scholz Garten. The event begins at 5 pm and tip-off at the Frank Erwin Center is scheduled for 7:00 pm.

November 11 | Friday

SLAR Homecoming Reception | Mix and mingle with current student leaders and catch up with fellow alumni, faculty, and staff from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the new state-of-the-art Follett Student Leaders Center located in the E.H. Hereford University Center during the Student Leader Alumni Reception.

November 12 | Saturday

Greek Homecoming Reception | Gather from 4 to 7 pm with fraternity and sorority alumni, UTA faculty and staff members, and friends for a pre-game celebration while watching the Homecoming parade from the College Park Center Northwest deck prior to the Mavericks taking on Texas Southern.

November 12 | Saturday

Men's Basketball Homecoming | Join the Maverick faithful as they root for the men's basketball team against Texas Southern. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm. Game packages, which include your ticket in the alumni reserved section, a t-shirt, UTA alumni goody bag, and free popcorn, are available.

November 13 | Sunday

Women's Basketball Homecoming | Homecoming continues on Sunday when the women's basketball team, led by Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year Rebekah VanDijk, competes against the Roadrunners of UT San Antonio. Get your tickets and make some noise as we cheer the Lady Mavericks to victory.
