Basketball Programs continue Historic Seasons

Both the Maverick MEN'S and WOMEN'S basketball teams are ranked in the top 20 of the CollegeInsider.com poll, making UTA one of just four schools to achieve this distinction. On Monday, the men extended their winning streak to 11 games as Kevin Hervey recorded his 15th double-double in a win over Appalachian State. Lady Mav Cierra Johnson was named Sun Belt Player of the week. She joins Christina Devers and Rebekah VanDijk (2), who've earned four of the first six awards this season. The Chronicle of Higher Education notes UTA's partnership with Tarrant County College as an innovative approach to helping transfer students earn a degree at a lower cost and in a shorter time period. The article is just one of many that highlight UTA's leadership role in making college more accessible and helping students become more successful. Latino Leaders magazine heralded UTA initatives that have led to an increase in diversity on campus and more Hispanics earning degrees. American Way, the signature magazine of American Airlines worldwide, captured the vision of President Karbhari in its recent "The Trailblazers" profiles. You can take great pride in your University as a leader in higher education.

Minority Business Leaders Award Winners
UTA Alumni Receive Minority Business Leaders Award

Larry Kemp, Vicky Teherani, and Vince Puente are honored by the Dallas Business Journal as Minority Business Leaders award recipients for 2017. As the CEO of Kemp & Sons General Services, Kemp increased revenue 18 fold for the family business and has garnered the company local, regional, and national recognition. Teherani founded VT-Capital, Inc. which invests in companies with vision, energy, and growth potential. Puente, the President of Sales and Marketing and Co-Owner of Southwest Office Systems, was recently appointed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott to the Finance Commission of Texas. Advancing Medical Research

Junha Jeon, assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, leads a group of UTA chemists developing new methods to generate chemical compounds for use in medical drug discovery and development. The project focuses on compounds in increasingly high demand for use in a variety of applications, including pharmaceutical and other medicine-related activities.

Alumni Relations to Host UTA Day at the Rodeo on January 22

Head to the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo with all of your favorite Mavericks. Mark your calendars for this year's alumni event on January 22 from noon to 1:30 pm. Immediately following lunch, the group will walk to Will Rogers Coliseum to catch all the rodeo action. Your $25 ticket includes lunch, a rodeo ticket, and Maverick giveaways. GET YOUR TICKETS
