Distinguished Alumni Awards

Dear Friends,

 

From CEO to sports radio host, this year's Distinguished Alumni Awards recipients personify the best characteristics of the Maverick spirit! Join us on November 10 as we honor six deserving awardees during one memorable night. The distinguished alumni winners include: Roger A. Krone ('81, Chairman and CEO of Leidos), Raj K. Nooyi ('78, VP and Global Head, retired, of Supply Chain Centre of Excellence, Tata Consultancy Services), Mike Rhyner ('81, Sports Radio Personality), and Teresa White ('88, President of Aflac U.S. Operations). Nafees Alam ('02, Chief Executive Officer of DRG Concepts) will receive the Distinguished Recent Graduate award, and Frank (Owner of Franklyn Alexander, DDS, Inc.) and Jane Alexander (Co-owner of Stream Texas Now) will be named Distinguished Honorary Alumni.

Tara Bordeaux ('12) is the 2018 Texas Teacher of the Year. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from UTA’s College of Liberal Arts and began teaching in the Austin Independent School District in 2013. READ MORE

Neonatal Research for Brain Swelling

Hanli Liu, a UTA bioengineer professor, will integrate a portable brain imaging system with an advanced signal-processing technique for newborns that will better measure the babies’ neurophysiology in real time, providing physicians the analysis needed to treat encephalopathy or brain swelling more quickly. Darlene Hunter ('06) received ESPNW’s "Toyota Everyday Hero" Award for her work with the Lady Movin’ Mavs. The Everyday Hero Award is given to three individuals per year who are promoting and creating opportunities for women and girls in sports. READ MORE

Enhancing Diversity
Enhancing Diversity

UTA received a $1.4 million, five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education to assist undergraduate students who are first-generation college students, from low-income and minority populations, in continuing their education and pursuing master’s and doctoral degrees. READ MORE

Alumni Save with Nationwide

October 14 | Saturday

UTA Day at the Dallas Zoo | Lions and Tigers and Mavericks, oh my! The first ever UTA Day at the Dallas Zoo will take place from 11 am to 1 pm on October 14. Tickets are $25 and include a come-and-go lunch, parking, admission to the Dallas Zoo, and giveaways. Children two and under are free! GET YOUR TICKETS

Topping Out | The 14th annual Topping Out Awards Program will take place on October 26 to recognize and honor excellence and teamwork in creating the built environment within the greater DFW Metroplex. The Topping Out program raises scholarship funds for students attending UTA's College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs. SPONSORSHIP INFO

MSS: Roland Fryer | UTA alumnus and award-winning Harvard economist Roland Fryer will visit Texas Hall as the third lecturer in the 2017-18 Maverick Speakers Series.
