The American Physical Society has awarded Benjamin Jones, assistant professor of physics at UTA, the Mitsuyoshi Tanaka Dissertation Award in Experimental Particle Physics, which is widely considered the most prestigious dissertation award in the field. Jones received the award for his doctoral thesis from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, “Sterile Neutrinos in Cold Climates,” which was based on his research on the IceCube experiment at the South Pole. IceCube is an international collaboration of scientists from 48 institutions in 12 countries, dedicated to studying neutrino physics and neutrino astrophysics using the 1-billion-ton IceCube detector located at the South Pole. Healing Hearts

Yi Hong, an assistant professor in the Department of Bioengineering at UTA, has been awarded a $211,000 R21 grant from the National Institutes of Health to develop materials that will allow doctors to use a 3-D printer to create unique new blood vessels for children with vascular defects. This condition, which may cause congenital heart defects, is difficult to treat with the same methods used on adults. Common techniques such as grafts are problematic because a child's body grows faster than the grafts can adapt to, requiring multiple surgeries to accommodate the growth. READ MORE

Community Support with the Big Event
Community Support with The Big Event

More than 1,300 students, faculty and staff from The University of Texas at Arlington will help residents and communities across Dallas and Fort Worth during an annual day of service known as The Big Event. On Saturday, April 8, volunteers from UTA will fan out to about 70 sites in the metroplex, helping community-based agencies and non-profit organizations such as local libraries, Mission Arlington, American Cancer Society, and The Salvation Army. The Big Event began at UTA in 2000, and participation has steadily grown from 100 participants in the first year. UTA volunteers have contributed thousands of hours of service to the community. Governor Greg Abbott's Committee on People with Disabilities announced the winners of the 34th Annual Barbara Jordan Media Awards. UTA was honored for UTA Movin Mavs Host Ethiopian Sports Advocates, a video highlighting the University's selection by the U.S. Department of State to host Ethiopian adaptive sports advocates. 40 under 40
40 Under 40

Six UTA alumni were selected as 2017 '40 under 40' honorees by the Dallas Business Journal and the Fort Worth Business Press. Hayden Blackburn, Jessica Christopherson, Shonnah Driver, Darrien George, Nicholas Nelson, and Jay Veal were saluted for their outstanding contributions to their industries and communities.

Engineering Saturday | Engineering Saturday is a free outreach program of UTA's College of Engineering offering fun, hands-on activities for elementary through high school students. Faculty, student organizations, and partners provide a variety of activities, from building bridges to launching rockets, sure to excite students about engineering. READ MORE

UTA Jazz Brunch | Time to hit all the right notes at the annual UTA Jazz Brunch during the Main St. Fort Worth Arts Festival. Performances by UTA ensembles start at 11 am while brunch will be served from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. Tickets for the event at $20 per adult are now available. Get ready for a great event with great UTA friends. GET YOUR TICKETS

May 12 | Friday

Alumni and Friends at UTA Baseball | Head out to the ballpark with all your favorite UTA friends and enjoy a night of baseball and Cracker Jacks! It is the last scheduled home game for the 2017 season so come out and root for the home team. Tickets to the picnic hosted by Alumni Relations will be available soon.
