Fanning the Flames of Hope

As part of tomorrow's opening day activities for the 2018 Texas Special Olympics Summer Games, UTA's Police Department and area law enforcement representatives will deliver the Flame of Hope in the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Be here as more than 400 police officers parade the torch through campus, down Greek Row, en route to Maverick Stadium. One of the largest in the nation, the Torch Run celebration will begin at 9:45 AM and culminate with a presentation of funds raised throughout the year from participating law enforcement agencies. Bold Solutions, GLobal Impact
UTA Alumni Relations

The only international expert allowed to access the scene of a tragic landfill slide in Addis Ababa, Sahadat Hossain is now working with Ethiopian officials to train two post-doctorate researchers and five doctoral students in waste management and sustainable urban communities. Hossain is a civil and environmental engineer at UTA and is the current director of the Solid Waste Institute for Sustainability. READ MORE

Improving Industry

Shouyi Wang, assistant professor in UTA's Industrial, Manufacturing and Systems Engineering Department, is leading a team of researchers to help Foxconn, a global electronics manufacturer and primary supplier of iPhones, develop a more efficient system for identifying fraudulent repair or tampering with returned cell phones. The system will help reduce the amount of time it takes to determine whether a warranty for a mobile phone has been voided by comparing natural damage with human-caused damage. READ MORE

HeartFelt Research
UTA Alumni Relations

Bioengineering assistant professor Juhyun Lee received a Career Development Award from the American Heart Association to further his research that investigates how genes might be used to heal tissue damaged by heart attacks and congenital heart disease. READ MORE

The UTA softball team is competing in the National Invitational Softball Championship after winning the regional tournament in Arkansas last weekend. Game 2 is scheduled for today at noon. It is the first time in team history they have advanced out of a postseason regional. READ MORE

Student Startup
UTA Alumni Relations

Inspired by UTA's culture of entrepreneurship and innovation, 2018 grad Cameron Moreau is headed to San Francisco to start his career. Moreau created a successful startup company with a fellow UTA undergraduate and credits the student organizations, Maverick Challenge, and hackathon as events that helped shape his interest in computer science. International Folk Art Market | More than 40 master folk artists will come together at The Green at College Park for the world's largest international folk art market. In its second year, the event will include international cuisine, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, and more. MORE INFO

July 4 | Wednesday

4th of July Parade | Join UTA and the City of Arlington for one of the largest and oldest 4th of July parades in Texas. The family-friendly festivities begin at 9 AM as the Arlington Community Band and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts lead the singing of the National Anthem. Parking is available at UTA. MORE INFO
