Then, don't miss UTA Day at the Zoo on October 13 when UTA families and friends enjoy a Dallas treasure! For those of you looking to network, we have our regularly scheduled Fort Worth Alumni Chapter meeting at Joe T. Garcia's on October 3 and a special Formula SAE Racing Alumni dinner on October 14. Poised for Success
After posting one of the most attention-grabbing seasons in UTA athletics history, the Mavericks look for another year of success in 2017-18. UTA won four Sun Belt Conference championships, defended its league-wide Community Service Champion award, graduated its student-athletes at one of the highest rates among Division I institutions in the state of Texas, and placed more than half of its athletes on conference academic honor rolls last year. Leadership Spotlight: CFO of the Year
Kelly Davis, a 1984 graduate and UTA's Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, was named a finalist for CFO of the Year by the Dallas Business Journal. Davis has been with the University since 1997.

Stronger Airplanes
Andrew Makeev, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering and director of the Advanced Materials and Structures Lab, received a grant from Boeing to lead a team of researchers investigating the durability of compositie components used in aicraft. The work could lead to longer-lasting aircraft and help identify when components might fail. READ MORE

Building a Workforce
UTA was mentioned in the Dallas Morning News as a potential reason why the DFW Metroplex could attract the next Amazon headquarters. The University's number of highly skilled graduates, specifically in engineering and computer science, who stay in the area would help supply the high demand employment needs of a company the size of Amazon.

improving Global Medicine
RadhaKanta Mahapatra, a professor in the Department of Information Systems and Operations Management, conducted a study that suggests establishing public-private partnerships is key to bringing medicine to rural parts of India. Mahapatra's study shows that these partnerships will help make telemedicine affordable and sustainable. READ MORE

Fort Worth Alumni Chapter Meeting | UTA men's head basketball coach Scott Cross joins the Fort Worth Alumni Chapter at Joe T Garcia's to discuss the upcoming 2017-2018 season. Tickets are $15 to the 12 pm event. It will be a great time to network, eat, and share your Maverick pride with fellow UTA grads in Fort Worth! REGISTER

UTA Night at the Levitt | Join us Friday, October 6 at 8 pm for an evening of music under the stars as UTA hosts The Quaker City Night Hawks at the Levitt Pavilion in Arlington. The concert is free, and VIP ticket packages are available for $15. The packages include dinner from J. Gilligans, a Bahama Bucks Sno Cone, and reserved seating. Dinner begins at 7 pm. UTA Day at the Dallas Zoo | Lions and Tigers and Mavericks, oh my! The first ever UTA Day at the Dallas Zoo will take place from 11 am to 1 pm on October 14. Tickets are $25 and include a come-and-go lunch, parking, admission to the Dallas Zoo, and giveaways. Children two and under are free! GET YOUR TICKETS
