The College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs will team with AECOM, a multinational engineering firm, in an innovative partnership that promotes the cooperative network between UTA and industry to present a new interdisciplinary course that explores recent technological innovations in mobility. The Future of Hypermobility will be offered for graduate and upper undergraduate students and will include all disciplines within the college and contributions from UTA's civil engineering program. DJ Seo, a civil engineering professor, recently received a $216,103 subaward from a National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration grant to devise a way to take forecasts and metrics from multiple sources and merge them into a single, integrated forecast that will be more easily understood and useful during major weather events. In Seo's application, forecasts and metrics will be entered into a multi-model merging module, then put out as an integrated forecast, which will reduce forecast uncertainty. READ MORE

The first-ever UTA Night with the Dallas Mavericks will be held Wednesday, Feb 13, at 7:30 P.M. Discounted tickets start at $13. The first 100 guests to purchase a ticket will be able to enjoy the Mavs Fan Experience, which allows you to enter the American Airlines Center before the general public and sit courtside to watch the Dallas Mavericks and the Miami Heat shoot around. Mavericks fans will also have a chance to shoot a free throw immediately following the game. Tickets to participate in either of these exciting opportunities must be purchased via mavsgroup.com/UTAspirit.

Anand Puppala, College of Engineering associate dean for research and a professor of civil engineering, has been named a fellow of the United Kingdom’s Institution of Civil Engineers. Puppala, who has been at UTA since 1996, was inducted for academic and professional contributions to civil engineering in the areas of geotechnical and ground improvement. READ MORE

Yu Zhang, an assistant professor in the Civil Engineering Department, has earned a $515,565 grant from NOAA to apply inputs from the joint polar satellite system, or JPSS, to create a paradigm that could be applied to the National Water Model and allow both services to be considered in predictions and warnings for snow melt/runoff, flooding, and similar events.
