Teik Lim

The 2018 class of National Academy of Inventors fellows includes Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Teik C. Lim (pictured above), also a professor of mechanical engineering, and L.K. Mestha, an affiliated adjunct professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering. Both were recognized by the organization as inventors who have demonstrated a prolific spirit of innovation in creating or facilitating outstanding inventions that have made a tangible impact on quality of life, economic development, and the welfare of society. UTA Day at the Rodeo
UTA Day at The Rodeo

Saddle up and head west to celebrate all things UTA at the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. A growing tradition and fun-filled event, UTA Day at the Rodeo is scheduled for Sunday, January 27 from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. Tickets to the event include a come-and-go lunch featuring a build-your-own baked potato bar with BBQ brisket and salad, entry into the 2 PM rodeo, and UTA giveaways. It will be a relaxing and entertaining gathering of the Maverick family deep in the heart of Fort Worth. GET YOUR TICKETS

Adrian Parr, dean of the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs, has been named UNESCO chair of water and human settlements and has secured, with Associate Professor Michael Zaretsky of civil engineering, a $1 million UT System STARs grant to further research in this area. READ MORE

Predicting Gas Leaks
Predicting Gas Leaks

Kathleen Smits, an associate professor in the Civil Engineering Department, recently received a $414,000 grant from the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to develop a method to predict the conditions under which gas migration may occur and establish best practices to improve response to gas migration incidents, and finding and fixing leaks. Richard Margolin

Mechanical engineering alumnus Richard Margolin ('10) and his Dallas-based company, Robokind, have won one of five Emerging Technology Awards from Mechanical Engineering, the magazine of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. READ MORE
