Maneuvering light
Robert Magnusson, the Texas Instruments Distinguished University Chair in Nanoelectronics and an electrical engineering professor, will use a $360,000 National Science Foundation grant for his research into band flips and bound states in leaky-mode resonant photonic lattices. Magnusson's research could potentially be used to create new low-power modulators for optical communications systems such as in the current internet or applied later in other devices as technology advances. Sahadat Hossain, a civil engineering professor, is using a $1.37 million proof-of-concept contract from the Texas Department of Transportation to use recycled plastic pins to strengthen Mechanically Stabilized Earth, or MSE, walls on North Texas highways – one of the largest state highway systems in the nation. Airport finance
Shivam Arora, a dual-degree track graduate student in accounting and business analytics, has won the 2018-19 Airport Cooperative Research Program’s Graduate Research Award. The Federal Aviation Administration awards the grants and selects 10 outstanding masters or doctoral students nationally each year. READ MORE

Join us for a fun afternoon of tailgating and soccer as DFW Mavericks take over Toyota Stadium for UTA Day at FC Dallas. Army ten-miler
UTA's Maverick Battalion sent a team of six to compete in the Army Ten-Miler in Washington, DC. It is the second-largest 10-mile race in the United States with competitors from all 50 states. Alumnus and retired Lt. Col. Greg Trnka ('88), pictured above joined up with the team after the race.
