Thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends flooded campus this past week to participate in 2018 Homecoming festivities at UTA. The week-long celebration of UTA’s past and future demonstrated the tremendous impact the University has on our region and the unique spirit that bonds members of the Maverick family together as a special community. Rasika Dias, distinguished university professor of chemistry and biochemistry, is leading a team of UTA researchers that has filed a provisional patent application on a new copper compound that can be used to purify ethylene for use as a raw material in the production of plastics such as polyethylene or PVC, as well as other industrial compounds. Maverick emmys

Six former Hispanic Media Initiative students won a total of 11 Lone Star Emmys at the annual National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Lone Star Chapter awards held this year in Houston. Jairo Lozano (’13), Daniela Ruiz (’17), Vladimir Flores (’15), Angelina Armendariz (’14), Raul Solis (’12), and Sonia Salas (’12) were among the many recognized for their excellence in broadcast journalism. The annual Science Week hosted by UTA's College of Science wrapped up last week and featured numerous events to inspire students to pursue science education. Distinguished Alumnus Keith Crandell ('87), pictured above, finished the week with separate talks to freshman chemistry students and graduate and postdoc students in chemistry and biochemistry.

National Award

Meghna Tare, UTA’s executive director of the Institute for Sustainability and Global Impact, has been appointed Chief Sustainability Officer. In her new role, Tare will lead the University's efforts to develop energy-efficiency programs. READ MORE
