UTA Entrepreneurship
It's no surprise entrepreneurs Tyler Sickels (SolGro, Inc.) and Farhaj Mayan (Fade) found themselves in an international accelerator program, as their previous accomplishments include winning top awards in the Maverick Business Pitch competition, part of the Maverick Entrepreneur Program created by a generous alumnus. The resources and hands-on learning experiences they received at UTA demonstrate the University's commitment to building an ecosystem of entrepreneurship that supports the ideas of students. ALS Research
Jingsong Zhou, professor of kinesiology and associate director of the Bone-Muscle Research Center, received a $2.88 million award from the National Institutes of Health to research a novel approach to the treatment of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The majority of research on ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, focuses on the spinal cord because of how the disease affects neurological function. But Zhou is investigating the theory that ALS affects the physiology of the whole body through defective cells in multiple organs. READ MORE

Return on investment
UTA was ranked No. 34 nationally for universities offering the best return on investment for online students, according to College Consensus. College Consensus pointed out that UTA offers multiple start times for the convenience of busy, working students with full schedules. The website listed accelerated programs available to online students as another strength of UTA programs. READ MORE

The first album released by UTA's new record label has been named to Audiophile’s Best of 2018 Classical Releases list. "In the Loop” features the compositions and performances of UTA clarinet lecturer Cheyenne Cruz and flautist Hannah Leffler, who perform together as WoodWired. READ MORE

Coral Reefs
Laura Mydlarz, professor of biology, is a co-investigator for a project titled “Predicting the Spread of Multi-Species Coral Disease Using Species Immune Traits.” Its main goal is to produce a model that can predict the impact of multi-species disease spread on reefs based on coral species groups. Arlington 4th of July Parade | The annual Arlington 4th of July Parade is the oldest and longest-running event in Arlington. As a proud sponsor, UTA will once again enter several floats in the 9 AM parade that travels through downtown Arlington. For tips on where to park and watch the parade, visit the parade website.
