The Metropolitan Opera of New York recently announced Meredith Wallace ('07) as the Lindemann Young Artist Program Administrator. Wallace graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from UTA. The program was founded in 1980 as a way to nurture the most talented young artists through training and performance opportunities.

Precision Therapy
Nearly half of all heart failure patients do not have effective treatments for their condition, so three researchers at UTA are taking a more precise approach. Michael Nelson, Paul Fadel, and Mark Haykowksy, faculty members in the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, are part of an $11 million project funded by the National Institutes of Health to study the mechanisms of exercise intolerance in heart failure patients with preserved ejection fraction, a condition in which the heart pumps normally but is too stiff to fill properly. Academy Fellows
Two UTA researchers have received high honors from national academies. Zhen Cong, the associate dean for research and faculty affairs and director of the Ph.D. program in the School of Social Work, has been named a fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, the premier international society for scholars who research aging issues. Kathryn Daniel, associate professor of nursing at the College of Nursing and Health Innovation and director of the Adult and Gerontologic Nurse Practitioner Programs, has been inducted into the American Academy of Nursing’s 2019 Class of Fellows. Language Immersion
For the first time, UTA is hosting an intensive Russian language program, open to all high school and college students. The month-long immersion course, called STARTALK, is funded by the National Security Agency. It is aimed at increasing the number of U.S. citizens learning, speaking and teaching critical-need foreign languages, such as Russian, Chinese and Arabic. READ MORE
