UTA Ranked Nationally

UTA is nationally ranked No. 221 among the top echelon of the U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges for 2019, which were released Monday, Sept. 10. UTA also ranked No. 126 among top public universities in the magazine’s rankings. The rankings list marks the first time UTA has been ranked among the national private and public universities. North Texas Genome Center research

Esther Betran, UTA professor of biology, will be using the high-tech tools provided by the North Texas Genome Center to shed light on the role of ‘jumping genes’ after receiving a National Science Foundation grant to perform functional and comparative genomics research. Transposable elements or ‘jumping genes’ make up a large fraction of the genome and are responsible for much of the mass of DNA in cells. READ MORE

Collegiate auto racing teams from across the country will converge on UTA's campus to rev their engines and compete against the clock at the 18th Annual Texas Autocross Weekend Sept. 15-16. Cars are designed, built and raced by students. Racing starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, on Lot 49 at the southeast corner of Mitchell and Cooper streets. Saturday will be a competition on the traditional endurance course in the morning and a different course in the afternoon. READ MORE

NSF fellowship

Kathleen Currie, a third-year doctoral student in biology, was awarded a Graduate Research Fellowship Program grant by the National Science Foundation. The award will support her research, which focuses on genetic variation and its impact on the microbiome, using whiptail lizards (genus Aspidoscelis) as the study system. READ MORE

Qingyu Zhu, a third-year physics Ph.D. student, was awarded second place in a poster competition for his research at a national conference on the Earth’s upper atmosphere sponsored by the National Science Foundation. READ MORE

UTA Night at the Rangers | The ever-popular UTA Night at the Rangers is back when the Texas Rangers take on the Tampa Bay Rays at Globe Life Park. The first 1,750 UTA fans to purchase their game ticket through the Rangers website will receive a special UTA-themed Rangers baseball hat. GAME TICKETS or PICNIC TICKETS

UTA Day at the Zoo | Join the herd of Mavericks exploring the wonders of the animal kingdom at the first ever UTA Day at the Fort Worth Zoo.
